Gender Socialization

Killing us Softly, the message being sent is that advertisements play a huge role for women an men, but more for women. In the video it stated that "Women become a subject to object", when I heard that it caught my attention that women are something but since ad's can make one think differently so they would want to change themselves to satisfy others(men specifically). It showed as well that men don't deal with so much as women they dont deal with consequences and in result men can't be an objective. As well as according to these ad's it send a message to women that they would have to be skinny, they have to get bigger breasts , they will only be exceptable if they are young, thin, white, beautiful, carefully, groomed and polished. When hearing this it showed to me that they want all women to look certain way and to look the same. Messages as well being sent by these ad's show that women are expected to change more than men but in the end the messae being sent is by showing different types of ad's with a different message showing that everone is different and live the way that they naturaly are.
A Call to Men, the message being sent Tony Porter states that men were known to be strong, leaders, dominant, courageous, no pain with any type of emotion, men were suppose to show anger and fearful. Tony Porter states that men are the biggest role to women they dominat the women. For when a boy is young fathers tend to teach their sons from early childhood to start the entty into becoming a man. Including that every man isn't suppose to show his emotions in fornt of a women it wouldve been considered being weak, and not manly. "The Man Box", its shows how much of a boy can be a man and at poinnts doing what they know is wrong and it shouldnt happen. By not having the man box it would give men freedom to do what is write.
Killing us Softly and A cal to Men bithh express on how society wants us to see things. Socialization wants everyone to be a certain way so everyone can be the same, and be expressed on what they believe is right and well known amongest others. I believe our socialization are tyring to dominant men and women into believing that what one puts on ad's or anywhere in todays society its what one sees to be a true meaning to others.

Society

"Occupy Wall Street" is a protest that begun on September 17, 2011. Occupy wall street is an organizion gathered by many people protesting against social, economic inequality, and corruption. It was voluntary if one wanted to particpate in the protest not runned by a leader. Occupy Wall Street has spread around the world in Greece and Spain even "Arab Springs". There protest is trying to prove a point to the government that they arent stopping until they get some type of change. After the 6 month anniversey of a peacefully protest NYPD officers arent standing for this again and showing that our society part of the government wont let the followers of occupy wall street try to take over again. It shows that our society does have a dominent reason for what they are doing believing that due to the help care system people arent going to support it and they have a reason to stand up for what they believe in.

Culture

Last week, we learned about culture, so that is what I'll be talking about today. My nationality is Guatemalan, I was born and raised in brooklyn . When I first went to Guatemala, they live by norms. Here in New York no body says "goodmorning, good afternoon, or even have a goodnight". I was so used to passing by people and not saying a word, and just mind my own business. But when I went to my country its were I learned that other places have more repect towards one another even if you dont know the person. I had realized that in my country they were brought up with norms, including there respect towards one another. Also I realized that not everyone is the same until you really go to different places and experience it yourself.
